❊ About Us
Fitness for the heart of our community
At Smallmatter’s Fitness Focus, we believe that staying active should be a right, not a luxury, yet we know that for many people in Tyne and Wear, mainstream gyms can feel intimidating, unaffordable, or culturally disconnected. Our CIC was founded to bridge this gap by bringing exercise and fitness sessions directly into the heart of our local community venues, ensuring they are accessible to those who might otherwise be left behind.
We are particularly dedicated to supporting BME groups, refugees, and people seeking asylum, providing a vital lifeline for those who often find themselves isolated or stuck indoors. By offering culturally appropriate sessions, including dedicated women-only groups, we create safe and welcoming spaces where women can improve their physical health, boost their mental wellbeing, and feel genuinely good about themselves.
Our work isn't just about fitness; it’s about building community resilience, preventing ill health from becoming chronic, and reducing the long-term pressure on our local NHS services. Whether through our energetic bootcamps or our inclusive group sessions, we are committed to making sure that everyone in our community has the opportunity to lead a healthier, more connected life right where they live.
Whether you are looking to join a session, want to partner with us, or simply want to learn more about our work in Tyne and Wear, we’d love to hear from you.

Smallmatter
Born and raised in Bulawayo, the second-largest city in Zimbabwe, my journey into the world of fitness began long before it became my profession. As a child, I was always drawn to extra-mural activities, and by my teenage years, the gym had become my second home. What started as a personal quest to stay physically fit eventually evolved into a lifelong calling.
When I moved to England, I was presented with the incredible opportunity to transform my passion into a career. I believe that being a truly effective fitness instructor requires more than just enthusiasm—it requires rigorous training and a deep understanding of the body. To that end, I have dedicated myself to gaining the highest level of qualification across various disciplines.
Qualifications & Expertise
I am proud to hold several industry-recognised certifications and awards, including:
Active IQ Level 3: Gym Instruction and Personal Training
Level 2 Cambridge Technical Diploma in Sport
Level 2 NVQ & QFC Certificate in Activity Leadership
Level 2 Certificate in Boccia England: Specifically focused on boosting inclusivity within the community.
My Philosophy
My approach to fitness is rooted in the firm belief that physical health is intrinsically linked to mental wellbeing. I don't just see "clients"; I see individuals. Every session I lead is presented with a deep sense of understanding for the unique needs and goals of the person in front of me. There is no greater pride for me than seeing the positive, transformative results in my participants as they reclaim their health and confidence.
Community & Creativity
I am immensely grateful for the support I received from the Tyne and Wear community, and I am passionate about giving back. My commitment to inclusivity is reflected in my work with Boccia sports, ensuring that health and wellbeing are accessible to everyone, regardless of ability.
Outside of the gym, my life is fuelled by movement and melody. Whether it’s playing badminton, dancing, or singing, I stay active in ways that nourish the soul. My BTEC in Music is a testament to my creative side; I believe that the harmony found in music is much like the balance we strive for in a healthy lifestyle.
Ultimately, my goal is to build a healthier, more vibrant community, one person at a time. I look forward to being part of your fitness journey.
❊ Testimonials
the community want to say thanks.
Seriously! But don’t take our word for it, here are some things people have to say about us.
was really nervous about starting back at the gym, but Smallmatter made me feel at home from day one. There’s no ego with her—she just genuinely wants to see you do well. She’s helped me realise that looking after my body is just as much for my head as it is for my muscles. If you’re in Gateshead and looking for someone who actually listens, look no further. Absolute gem!

It’s rare to find an instructor who is so qualified but also so down-to-earth. I’ve been coming to Smallmatter’s sessions through the community programmes here in Tyne and Wear, and the energy she brings is infectious. She has this amazing way of making every session feel personal, even in a group. She’s a huge asset to the community here

“I’ve been attending the fitness sessions Smallmatter runs at our local mosque, and the impact has been brilliant. She is so respectful of our environment and really understands how to motivate us while keeping the sessions comfortable for everyone. She’s helped many of us ladies feel much more confident about our health. We always look forward to her coming in—she has such a lovely, warm energy
